President's Message

January 28, 2026

To the Temple Community,

It is with great enthusiasm that I introduce Forward with Purpose: Temple University’s Strategic Plan. I believe that Temple has all the necessary academic assets to become one of the most consequential urban research universities in the nation, and with this plan, we now have the compass to help us achieve that goal as we approach our 150th anniversary in 2034.

This process to develop this plan has been both inclusive and truly Temple Made. Over the past year, more than 2,200 members of the Temple community— faculty, students, staff, alumni and community partners—have contributed their ideas to this process. Their input has led to this plan being organized around three priorities: Student SuccessResearch in Action and Place-based Impact. Additionally, a set of three foundational principles—Innovation for Excellence, Partnerships, and Operational and Financial Strength—will span our work across the priorities and build the foundation needed to achieve our objectives.

The most important part of this process will soon begin. Over the next several weeks and months, the university will begin to implement Forward with Purpose to ensure that Temple is helping set the standard for what an urban research university can be.

The future of Temple University is bright, and I look forward to partnering with you all as we continue the important work of fulfilling Temple University’s historic mission, which has never been more relevant and important.

Sincerely,

John Fry
President
