Flying Further is the future of the university and how we will get there.
Flying Further is Temple’s strategic planning process. It represents who we are—an ambitious academic community leading innovation in education while always focusing on the road ahead. Flying Further allows us to embark on a bold, dynamic path forward, rooted in the university’s core mission and values.
The current global circumstances and questions about the value of higher education require us to consider how we approach the years to come. Now more than ever, we must address what we can do.
We remain strategic as we prepare for the future, adapting our plans to lead a transformative, inclusive institution and promote excellence in all that we do. As higher education—and the world—grows and evolves, we grow and evolve. We will challenge ourselves to ask the difficult questions, understand our limitations and address them head on.
The university’s 150th anniversary in 2034 also provides a key opportunity for us to design the future we want. Our planning committees, which comprise representatives across the university, will lead the entire Temple community in stewarding the university’s future to realize thoughtful and deliberate change. Flying Further positions us to develop clear goals and determine how to achieve them, iterating throughout our journey.
We will engage in assessment, evaluation and research, with a critical eye on who we are as a higher education institution, how we operate in this space and in the world, our capabilities, and our points of growth. We will develop metrics, as well as purpose and vision statements, to ground our process.
The strategic planning process emphasizes the university’s long-standing belief in the strength of the Temple community, their potential and their achievements.
Throughout 2021, the university will embark on the first four phases of Flying Further. We are asking important questions and examining the higher education landscape so we can position ourselves and plan effectively.
In the first iteration, we are taking four essential steps to prepare us for our long-term strategic plan.
